Medical Alcove at Smiley Public Library
In 1990, The Beaver Medical
Clinic Foundation Alcove at A.K. Smiley Public Library,
dedicated in memory of Dr. Meredith G. Beaver, was established to
provide medical books and literature for public reading and education.
History of
the Beaver Medical Clinic
Foundation
Community minded physicians of
the Beaver Medical Clinic and outstanding community leaders, established the
Foundation in 1961, to support medical related philanthropic projects that
would benefit people and organizations in the area. Since the Foundation's inception, the group changed its name to Beaver Medical Group but the Foundation retained its name as the Beaver Medical Clinic Foundation.
Since 1970, the Foundation has
funded scholarships to local area students pursuing careers in the medical
field.
In 1999, A. Leslie Richardson,
the original Administrator of the Beaver Medical Clinic, challenged the Board
of Directors to start an Endowment Fund by personally contributing $100,000 on
the condition that the physicians would match that
amount, which they did. To date,
our Endowment Fund is over $1,000,000.
Investment income from the
Endowment Fund is used to support
scholarships and further the purposes of the Foundation. In addition, Beaver Medical Group physicians make an annual donation to the Foundation.
Purpose Statement
