Beaver Medical Group Patient Letter

Dear Patient,

The 2019 Novel Coronavirus is the cause of a respiratory disease known as COVID-19. Beaver Medical Group is continuously monitoring new information about this disease and we are following the latest recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state and local public health agencies. We are committed to protecting your safety while maintaining the high-quality care.

Treatment for COVID-19 is likely to evolve as we learn more, but in the meantime it’s important to learn how to protect yourself and your family—and avoid the potential spread of the disease in our community.

Symptoms of COVID-19

Patients with COVID-19 have had mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of fever,
cough, and/or difficulty breathing. Unlike the flu, COVID-19 generally does not cause sneezing or runny nose.

Staying healthy

The best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19.

  • Avoid close contact (approximately 6 feet) with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • If you can, stay home—but make time to relax, unwind, and stay in touch with others. This particularly applies to those age 65 and older and those with chronic conditions.
  • Minimize trips and exposure to groups of people for at least the next 8 weeks.
  • Have enough groceries, household items, and over-the-counter medicines (particularly to treat fever and cough) on hand to limit trips to the store.
  • If you have a non-urgent medical need or need a prescription refill, please message your doctor on MyChart or call your doctor’s office.  [NOTE: If you have not yet signed up for MyChart, please see instructions at the end of this letter.]

If you feel sick

COVID-19 is very contagious, but most people will be able to recover from home. To avoid spreading respiratory illness to others, people with mild to moderate symptoms or known exposure to the virus should:

  • Stay home and avoid others.
  • DO NOT go to the hospital, urgent care centers, or doctor offices unless your symptoms are severe enough to require hospitalization. Please call first for any special instructions to avoid further spread of infection.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a disposable tissue—and use a mask if available.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
